Turn, established in Singapore, is a brand that is devoted to the creation of innovative door handles.

The idea behind a quiet, soft-rebound handle was seeded some years ago. In 2018, the founders of the company came together with the common wish to create sophisticated door levers that are not just beautiful to look at, but also operate in a quiet, understated manner. Soft-closing drawer slides and furniture hinges have become increasingly common in furniture, and Turn hopes to bring the same quiet finesse to doors.

With a patented soft-rebound mechanism, the depressed door handle does not spring back abruptly and instead, gradually rebounds silently. No effort has been spared by our team in the research and development of the soft-rebound handles, and together with designers and architects, we endeavour to bring a new dimension in handle design and technology to commercial and residential spaces.

The first collection of Turn handles is launches in fall 2022.

FOREWORD

The soft rebound handle mechanism from Turn is so intuitive and so logical, that one can’t help but feel “why hasn’t anyone thought of this sooner?”. 

When I was asked to creative direct a new door handle brand and collection, I felt strongly that we needed diverse perspectives how best form, proportion and tactility would combine with this newly invented soft rebound feature. When I sent prototypes of the mechanism to the designers and
architects I wanted to join our design team, all of them said yes - this tells you much about the confidence we all have in this potentially “game changing” feature.

We hope that Turn’s collection of handles sheds new light on an overlooked product category often viewed as “hardware”. A handle is typically selected for a space after the interior design is done, yet when a person experiences a space he is first greeted by the door handle. If first impressions count, we certainly should pay more attention. In the words of the Finnish
architect Juhani Pallasmaa – The door handle is the handshake of a building. We couldn’t agree more. 

Informed and inspired by sculpture, architecture, literature, nature and ergonomics, each designer and architect conveyed their image of the ideal soft-rebound door handle. To good handshakes.
